Selection Process

Candidates are selected through an "assessment centre" type procedure to ensure that we get the best of the applicants.

The selection of an applicant for admission is normally dependant upon the academic background and capability for higher studies. Prior to admission, every applicant has to pass an aptitude test. You may also be required by the board of study to appear for a viva voce.

The aptitude test is carried out by the PGIA (Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture) and the Board of Study in Business Administration. This will test the candidate's suitability to pursue the Peradeniya MBA programme.

Subsequently, a process similar to an assessment centre procedure is employed to get the crème de la crème of applicants. We always maintain strict discipline in selection whereby applicants are not prejudiced.

What is an "assessment centre" type procedure?

It is a holistic evaluation method which assesses the following:

  1. Past experiences
  2. Communication skills
  3. Ability for academic work
  4. Leadership and team skills

This process will include a face-to-face interview of the applicant.

After your application has been submitted and reviewed, you may be invited to an interview. However, in the case of foreign students, an interview is not compulsory. The interview is an indicator of interest, but is not a guarantee of admission; it serves as one element among many that are considered as we review your application.

Interviews are conducted by the MBA Admissions Board. Interviews are scheduled on campus or on the telephone. All interviews are conducted by invitation only, at the discretion of the Admissions Board. If invited, however, you must participate in order to complete the application process.

Neither the timing of your interview nor its format, whether in-person or by phone, implies anything about the status of your application or affects your candidacy. Invitations to interview may be extended up until the notification date of a round and are a positive indicator no matter when you receive them.
